Environmental & Permits Officer (EA/WULA) – Renewable Energy

About the role
Kwena Human Capital is recruiting an experienced Environmental & Permits Officer to join the Redstone PV + BESS project, a 19 MWp solar PV plant with a 30 MWh/4‑hour battery energy storage system. The role is full‑time, site‑based and part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a utility‑scale renewable energy project.
Key responsibilities
- Project execution: support the team in delivering works according to the approved programme, specifications and project requirements; coordinate activities with other disciplines, subcontractors and stakeholders; monitor progress and identify potential delays.
- Technical/Engineering: review drawings, specifications and technical documentation; support design close‑out and resolve technical queries/RFIs; coordinate technical interfaces between PV, electrical, BESS, SCADA/PTMC and other disciplines; provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning.
- Construction: supervise and coordinate site activities within the relevant discipline; manage work fronts and subcontractor activities; ensure materials and equipment are available when required; monitor productivity, progress and workmanship.
- Quality: ensure works comply with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs and quality requirements; support inspections, punch‑list activities and close‑out; maintain accurate project records and as‑built documentation.
- HSE: comply with project HSE requirements and South African legislation; participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks and site inspections; exercise stop‑work authority where applicable and promote a strong safety culture.
Required profile
- Degree or National Diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of relevant environmental experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, mining, renewable energy or EPC projects.
- Proven experience in environmental compliance monitoring, reporting, and managing Environmental Authorisations (EA) and Water Use Licence (WULA) requirements.
- Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation, Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr) and ECO reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication, strong report‑writing, administrative and organisational skills.
