Environmental Estate & Gardens Manager

About the role

The Environmental Estate & Gardens Manager leads stewardship of The Country Club Johannesburg’s properties at Woodmead and Auckland Park. The role ensures preservation, enhancement and sustainable management of golf courses, gardens, woodlands, wetlands, dams and wildlife habitats.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement biodiversity conservation strategies across both campuses.
• Maintain environmental records, manage chemical storage and ensure compliance with water‑use licences and other regulations.
• Lead the annual Arbor Campaign, tree‑planting initiatives and monitor resident and feral animal populations.
• Plan and oversee seasonal projects such as grass burns, erosion control and habitat restoration.
• Engage members through talks, guided walks and educational programmes, producing newsletters and photographic displays.
• Manage a team of permanent and casual staff, handling rostering, training and performance management.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in estate, environmental or land management, preferably within a golf course or large private estate.
• Degree or diploma in Environmental Management, Conservation, Ecology, Horticulture or a related field.
• Proven experience in environmental compliance reporting and adherence to government regulations.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with a passion for conservation and community education.
