Engineering Technician (Production) – Grade A – Naval Engineering

About the role

The South African Navy is seeking a qualified Naval Engineering Technician to join the Fleet Command Headquarters in Simon’s Town. The position is classified as Engineering Technician (Production) Grade A within the Weapons Electrical Engineering design team. The role involves system analysis, design execution and project management in a naval environment.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse system and subsystem defects and provide technical advice.
• Develop integrated concepts and detailed designs for naval equipment.
• Conduct acceptance testing and trials for engineered solutions.
• Manage projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery and compliance with engineering standards.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Engineering or a related qualification.
• Minimum three years of post‑qualification technical experience.
• Current compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technician.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to read, understand and draft engineering drawings.
• Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills in an engineering environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
• Experience using CAD/Caddie and other design software.
• Knowledge of Class and IMO rules and regulations.
• Ability to compile and present technical reports in English.
• Competence in writing specifications and statements of work.
