Engineering Manager - Data Platform (Remote)

About the role

AutoScout24, a major online automotive marketplace, is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its Data Platform team. The team bridges complex infrastructure and domain-specific data needs, providing AWS-based self-service tooling, governance and reliability so other departments can manage their own data products. The role combines people management with technical architecture, focuses on scaling a platform built on Data Mesh principles, and integrates AI into the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Cultivate a high-performing engineering culture centred on ownership, accountability and technical excellence, and hire, coach and mentor data engineers.
• Lead the evolution of the AWS-based data platform, making decisions on performance, security, cost optimisation and scalability.
• Drive AI-assisted engineering by integrating tools such as Cursor or Codex into the development lifecycle and embedding AI features that automate data lineage and troubleshooting.
• Act as the main contact for Product, Data Governance and Analytics teams, translating business problems into technical solutions and supporting a federated governance model.
• Stay close to the code, taking part in architecture reviews and helping with complex engineering challenges.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience leading, coaching and developing engineering teams with a proven delivery record.
• Demonstrable experience integrating AI development tools into engineering workflows and building AI-enabled features into internal data products.
• Solid understanding of decentralised data ownership and federated governance (Data Mesh).
• Product-focused mindset, ensuring the platform meets evolving business needs while remaining reliable and user-friendly.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in AWS and data lake/lakehouse architectures.
• Strong command of Python and SQL.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines.
