Energy and Sustainability Engineer

About the role

The client, a leading hospital group, seeks an Energy and Sustainability Engineer to lead sustainability initiatives, improve energy efficiency and support engineering excellence across its facilities. This full‑time position combines technical engineering expertise with project management to deliver measurable environmental and operational improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for critical plant and equipment with a focus on sustainability.
• Assess engineering systems and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
• Lead sustainability projects from concept through implementation and performance review.
• Perform risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and coordinate engineering service delivery.
• Assist with SCADA‑related engineering requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and monitor sustainability objectives.

Required profile

• National Diploma (NQF 6) in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
• Engineering experience within a hospital maintenance and project environment.
• Qualified Energy Auditor or equivalent certification.
• Proven success in environmental sustainability programmes and energy‑reduction initiatives.
• Experience with renewable energy systems and engineering projects.
• Strong financial planning, budgeting, project management and organisational skills.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office; SAP Plant Maintenance experience is beneficial.
