EMS Workshop Supervisor (Gearbox Repair)

About the role

Sulzer is looking for an experienced EMS Supervisor to lead its workshop operations in Elandsfontein. Reporting to the EMS Service Centre Manager, you will supervise a team of employees and contractors while ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality repair, refurbishment, assembly and testing of mechanical equipment, especially gearboxes. The role suits a technically strong leader who values safety, customer service and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage workshop activities so work is completed within agreed timelines.
• Supervise gearbox overhaul, refurbishment, repair, assembly and testing in line with OEM specifications and engineering standards.
• Handle breakdowns and repair requests.
• Promote a strong safety culture through behavioural safety initiatives and toolbox talks.
• Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, repair procedures, quality standards and customer requirements.
• Manage inventory of critical components, consumables, bearings, seals and lubricants.
• Oversee maintenance, calibration and certification of workshop equipment and measuring instruments.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers, OEMs and internal stakeholders on technical matters and projects.
• Drive reliability improvement, cost control and operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Qualified millwright or fitter & turner.
• National Diploma or equivalent technical qualification.
• Valid driver's licence.
• 5 to 10 years of progressive supervisory experience in a mechanical workshop or engineering environment.
• Sound knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, understand tolerances and drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and SAP.
• Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Leadership, communication, commercial awareness, planning and problem-solving skills.
