Embedded Software Engineer - Protocols

About the role

We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer focused on communication protocols to join our agile development team in Pretoria-East. You will collaborate with software, hardware and R&D test engineers on multi‑year international projects, delivering high‑performance protocol software for tactical communication platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and qualify OSI Layer 4‑7 embedded protocol components for tactical communication systems.
• Develop command‑and‑control and messaging features for embedded, Windows PC and Linux PC platforms.
• Integrate protocol software with lower OSI layers (Layer 1‑3) on client modem hardware.
• Ensure code complies with relevant coding standards and specifications.
• Create and maintain automated subsystem and unit tests for regression and code‑quality evaluation.
• Maintain automated build systems and installers.

Required profile

• BEng Computer Engineering or BSc Computer Science.
• Interest in communication protocol development.
• 0‑5 years of professional software development experience.
• South African citizenship.
