Duty Room Operator – Campus Security

About the role

The Duty Room Operator provides front‑line security support for the South Campus of the University of the Free State. You will be the first point of contact for walk‑ins, telephone enquiries and radio communications, ensuring a safe environment for staff, students and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and certify documents, attend to walk‑ins and telephone enquiries.
• Capture and update incident data in the Crime Incident Information System (CIIMS).
• Escalate incidents to relevant sections and activate emergency functionaries when required.
• Respond to two‑way radio communications and coordinate with law‑enforcement agencies.
• Manage keys for opening and closing the building and ensure secure storage.
• Provide statements for internal and criminal investigations.
• Perform additional security duties as needed.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) qualification.
• Valid Grade B PSIRA certificate.
• Minimum one year of relevant security experience.
• Valid South African driving licence (Code 8).
• Experience in a higher‑education environment is preferred.
• Certificate in Customer Services.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
