Donor Care Officer

About the role

The Donor Care Officer is responsible for ensuring a smooth and safe experience for blood donors at blood drives and donor centres. This role combines operational management of consumables and equipment with direct donor interaction, education, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Manage cost per unit and consumable stock for whole blood and specialised collections, reporting usage and discrepancies.
• Maintain and validate equipment, ensuring timely repairs.
• Welcome donors, guide them through registration, assist with forms, and provide educational materials.
• Handle donor enquiries, complaints and coach the team on customer service.
• Collect whole blood and apheresis units, pack and off‑load vehicles, and set up blood drives on schedule.
• Conduct donor identification, registration, basic physical checks and risk‑behaviour interviews, documenting all results.
• Prepare blood packs, perform phlebotomy according to SOPs, and provide in‑donation care including refreshments and education.
• Initiate emergency treatment (First Aid/CPR) when required and coordinate with medical leads.
• Complete all post‑donation documentation and provide follow‑up advice.

Required profile

• Ability to manage stakeholder relations and ensure donor satisfaction at blood drives.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and reporting.
• Capability to conduct confidential assessments and educate donors on high‑risk behaviours.
• Preparedness to respond to emergencies and follow established SOPs.
• Team‑oriented mindset with willingness to coach colleagues on service quality.
