About the role

The Divisional Commander – Operations (Coastal) leads the fire and rescue services for the coastal area of Buffalo City. Reporting to senior municipal management, the incumbent ensures effective response to major incidents and maintains operational readiness of the fire brigade.

Key responsibilities

Identify appliance, equipment and building maintenance needs of the Fire Operations section.
Control and coordinate operational activities during serious and major incidents attended by the brigade.
Coordinate the health, safety and administrative programmes for the fire services.
Oversee the implementation of the municipal safety programme across the coastal fire stations.

Required profile

Grade 12 qualification.
Diploma in Fire Technology or a relevant tertiary qualification.
First Aid Level 3 certification.
Valid Code EC driver’s licence.
Computer literate.
At least ten years of operational experience, with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role such as Platoon or Station Commander.

Required skills

Computer literacy.
First Aid Level 3 competence.
