Distribution Controller

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Distribution Controller to lead our Driver Sales team and ensure timely, full deliveries across our network. This role combines operational oversight of distribution routes, driver management, and customer service to support our bakery’s market growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Driver Sales team to guarantee on‑time, in‑full deliveries according to schedule and volume targets.
• Implement and continuously improve route optimisation models and systems.
• Oversee vehicle use, defect management, and compliance with safety standards.
• Control stock, cash, and driver balances on trucks, including returns and basket management.
• Plan and monitor weekly wages, leave rosters, and crew attendance.
• Conduct on‑the‑route coaching, driver debriefs, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Coordinate with distribution partners, telesales, and the sales team to open new accounts and meet sales targets.
• Handle customer queries, special deliveries, and ensure accurate invoicing.
• Monitor product quality, manage complaints, and support recall processes.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and people‑management skills with experience supervising drivers or logistics staff.
• Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail for stock and cash handling.
• Proven ability to analyse route performance and implement process improvements.
• Good communication skills for interacting with customers, trade partners, and internal teams.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
