Director of Red Tape Reduction

About the role
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism of the Western Cape Government is looking for a dynamic senior manager to lead its Red Tape Reduction programme. The Director will drive the identification and removal of unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles and regulatory constraints that hinder business growth and economic development across the province.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse existing regulations and administrative processes to pinpoint inefficiencies and unnecessary barriers.
- Lead cross‑departmental working groups to design and implement streamlined procedures.
- Develop and monitor performance metrics to assess the impact of reforms on business activity.
- Engage with private‑sector stakeholders, industry bodies and community groups to gather feedback and build consensus.
- Prepare policy recommendations and briefing documents for senior government officials.
Required profile
- Proven senior‑level experience in public‑sector administration, policy reform or regulatory affairs.
- Strong understanding of economic development principles and the business environment in South Africa.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex change initiatives.
