Director – Legal Services / Human Resource Management

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is recruiting senior directors to lead its Legal Services and Human Resource Management directorates. Both positions are Level 13 senior management roles based in Pretoria, responsible for strategic oversight and delivery of core departmental functions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and manage the delivery of legal advisory services, including drafting opinions, contracts, tender documents and legislation.
• Oversee human resources functions such as policy development, staff deployment, remuneration administration and employee relations.
• Lead litigation and dispute resolution processes, liaise with external counsel and state attorneys, and ensure compliance with government policies and legislation.
• Manage the directorate’s financial and human resources, including budgeting, staffing and asset management.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification – LLB for Legal Services or a NQF 7 qualification in Human Resources Management for HR.
• Minimum five years of middle‑management experience as a Deputy Director or equivalent.
• Certificate for entry into the Senior Management Service.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply government policies, legislation and labour relations frameworks.
