Digital & Product Head, Personal & Private Banking, Africa Regions

About the role

Liberty is seeking a seasoned strategic leader to head the Digital and Product division for its Personal and Private Banking (PPB) operations across Africa Regions, based in Johannesburg. The role drives the digital transformation of financial services, bridging complex banking products with the needs of the modern African consumer, and covers the full lifecycle of financial products from concept and design through launch, optimisation and decommissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Translate high-level segment strategies into actionable, scalable product and digital solutions tailored to each market.
• Define a unified vision that aligns product value propositions with the business's digital transformation goals.
• Act as custodian of product economics, keeping portfolios competitive and profitable within strict risk appetites.
• Work with technology, credit and regional heads to build a scalable, resilient digital architecture across mobile, web and traditional banking channels.
• Oversee allocation of capital, time and people so cross-functional squads deliver results within budget and schedule.
• Design personalised client journeys that reduce friction and improve NPS and digital adoption.
• Manage the stability of digital channels and ensure releases meet regulatory, compliance and risk frameworks.
• Lead agile, cross-functional teams to speed time to market.

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Finance or Accounting.
• At least 10 years of experience, with a strong focus on product management, product economics and portfolio management in financial services.
• Significant track record in Personal and Private Banking, with deep expertise in digital and e-commerce growth strategies in the African market.
• Strong behavioural competencies: strategic decision-making, empowering large teams, and managing risk and change quickly.
