About the role

Our client is an integrated financial services and workplace‑wellness solutions provider that delivers technology‑driven services across risk administration, insurance underwriting, retirement fund administration, actuarial services, wellness and disability management. The role involves designing, developing and maintaining both backend services and frontend applications for these critical business areas.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot, and frontend applications with Angular.
• Translate business requirements into reliable, well‑scoped technical solutions in collaboration with analysts and stakeholders.
• Design and optimise MySQL schemas, write efficient queries and manage data migrations.
• Build and consume RESTful APIs for integration with internal services and third‑party systems.
• Manage source control, conduct code reviews, handle merge requests and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and implement preventative fixes.
• Monitor system performance, stability and scalability, applying secure coding practices throughout.
• Write and maintain technical documentation and contribute to unit and integration test coverage.

Required profile

• Relevant Computer Science or Software Engineering qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Minimum 5 + years of professional software development experience.
• Experience in the financial services, insurance or pensions sector is highly advantageous.
• Proven track record supporting live, business‑critical systems in production.
• Strong understanding of secure coding, authentication/authorisation and data protection (e.g., POPIA/GDPR).

• Automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Cypress, Karma).

What we offer

• Salary range R35 000 – R55 000 per month.
