Deputy Manager – Communication & Supply Chain

About the role

The Mopani District Municipality is seeking two Deputy Managers to lead its Communication and Supply Chain Management functions. Both positions require strategic thinking, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to operate under pressure in a municipal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement media strategies, draft statements, coordinate press conferences, and monitor media coverage to enhance the municipality’s reputation.
• Formulate supply‑chain policies, manage end‑to‑end procurement processes, oversee inventory, and ensure uninterrupted flow of goods and services.
• Contribute to the municipal communication strategy and ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.
• Prepare operational and risk plans, compile management reports, and manage departmental budgets and personnel.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a relevant bachelor’s degree (Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Accounting, Supply Chain, Economics, or equivalent).
• Minimum five years of relevant experience, including at least two years in a supervisory role.
• Valid driver’s licence (Code EB for SCM, any for Communication) and willingness to work irregular hours.
• Knowledge of the Municipal Systems Act, MFMA, Batho Pele principles, and related legislative frameworks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel, and Windows 2013.
• Experience using media monitoring tools and digital platforms.
