Deputy Dean – Research & Postgraduate Studies (Associate/Adjunct Professor)

About the role

The University of Pretoria invites applications for a senior academic leader to serve as Deputy Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The role combines professorial duties with strategic oversight of research activities and postgraduate programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the faculty’s research strategy and agenda.
• Oversee the design, delivery and quality assurance of postgraduate programmes.
• Foster national and international research collaborations and partnerships.
• Manage research funding, grants administration and compliance with funding bodies.
• Mentor and support academic staff in research development and supervision of postgraduate students.
• Represent the faculty in university‑wide committees and external academic forums.

Required profile

• PhD in a health‑science discipline with a strong publication record.
• Extensive experience in senior academic positions (Associate Professor, Adjunct Professor or Professor).
• Proven track record of securing competitive research funding.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring postgraduate students.
• Knowledge of higher‑education policies, research ethics and quality assurance.
