Depot Superintendent – Umtata

About the role

The Depot Superintendent will oversee daily depot operations in Umtata, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling of LPG stock. Reporting to the Depot Manager, you will act as the interim manager during absences and lead a team of staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain effective stock control, conducting twice‑daily counts and investigating variances.
• Supervise and mentor depot staff, ensuring adherence to company standards.
• Liaise with contractors and local authorities to guarantee smooth operations and regulatory compliance.
• Act as Depot Manager when required, overseeing production planning, SAP entries, and reporting.
• Implement HSEQ policies, conduct equipment inspections, and prepare timely HSEQ reports.
• Carry out integrity checks, apply downgrade modes, and ensure safety‑critical barriers are in place.
• Ensure compliance with legal and governance requirements, including OHS Act, HAZCHEM, and SABS regulations.

Required profile

• Engineering Diploma (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Industrial or Chemical).
• Minimum 3 years experience in LPG depot operations with supervisory responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of logistics, stock control processes and relevant legislation.
• Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Valid driver’s licence, reliable personal vehicle, and high personal integrity.
