Data Steward

About the role

Liberty is looking for a Data Steward to lead data governance and quality initiatives across its Johannesburg operations. The role ensures data assets are managed throughout their lifecycle, aligned with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and enforce data and information management standards, covering data quality, lifecycle, metadata and privacy.
• Support business units by providing insight into data collection, storage, usage and deletion processes.
• Use tools and methodologies to improve adoption of information management practices and drive accountability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to capture data‑related requirements and translate them into governance solutions.
• Identify, assess, report and manage data‑related risks and contribute to governance documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management or a related field.
• 5‑7 years of experience in data governance, data management or information risk, preferably in banking or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of data lifecycle management, metadata, data quality assessment and data warehousing concepts.
• Understanding of banking regulatory and compliance requirements, data privacy and information security.
