Data Engineer – On-site in George, Western Cape

About the role

We are modernising our data platform and need a skilled Data Engineer to design and build a scalable, cloud‑native solution. You will work on‑site in George, collaborating with analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to turn raw data into trusted, analytics‑ready assets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement ELT pipelines from multiple sources using modern tools.
• Develop clean, well‑structured data models with dbt and optimise workloads in Snowflake.
• Transform raw data into high‑quality, analytics‑ready datasets and implement data quality checks, monitoring and observability.
• Apply engineering best practices such as CI/CD, testing and code reviews.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver practical, scalable solutions and mentor junior engineers.
• Contribute to standards, documentation and cloud cost‑efficiency initiatives.

Required profile

• 4–6+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• Strong ownership mindset and a passion for solving complex data problems.
• Ability to work effectively with stakeholders and deliver high‑quality solutions.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL for complex transformations.
• Python (or similar) for data processing and automation.
• Experience building ELT pipelines in cloud environments (GCP, AWS or Azure).
• Hands‑on expertise with Snowflake and dbt.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.
• Working knowledge of structured and semi‑structured formats (JSON, Parquet).
• Understanding of data governance, security and best practices.
