About the role

As a Data Engineer at Nedbank, you will help shape the future of data by building enterprise‑scale data platforms, pipelines, and solutions that drive strategic decisions across the bank. You will work on modern, cloud‑enabled data architectures to support analytics, machine learning and AI initiatives.

Key responsibilities

Develop and maintain enterprise‑scale data pipelines for ingestion, provisioning, streaming and API delivery.
Engineer big‑data and streaming solutions using Hadoop, Kafka and IBM Infosphere Data Replication.
Implement cloud‑based data engineering with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and related tools.
Create APIs for data consumption and enable self‑service access for business users.
Establish data quality, governance and monitoring across all pipelines.
Load and manage layers of the Nedbank Data Warehouse, including Data Reservoir, ADW and Enterprise Data Marts.

Required profile

Minimum 3 years of experience in data engineering.
Experience with credit risk systems (mandatory).
Proven ability to design and maintain data warehouses and data lakes.
Strong programming background in SAS, Java and Python.
Advanced SQL skills across Oracle, SQL Server and NoSQL databases.

CI/CD and DevOps tools: GitLab CI, GitOps, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), Microservices.
Infrastructure as Code: AWS CDK, Terraform.
Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, OpenTelemetry.
Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure (preferred), GCP.
API development and testing: REST, Postman, Swagger.
Basic AI/ML tools: PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLFlow, computer vision, NLP.
