Cost Accountant – Zero‑Based Costing

About the role

We are seeking a Cost Accountant with a passion for zero‑based costing to join a well‑established manufacturing company in Johannesburg East. You will bridge operational finance and commercial insight, ensuring product costs are accurate and supporting smarter business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product costing models, applying zero‑based costing techniques.
• Perform cost analysis, variance reporting and support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Prepare month‑end journals, reconciliations and management accounts.
• Monitor inventory valuation and manufacturing cost drivers.
• Collaborate with production teams to identify and implement cost‑efficiency improvements.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
• Maintain strong financial controls and support audit requirements.

Required profile

• BCom degree.
• CIMA qualified or actively studying towards CIMA.
• Minimum 4 years experience in cost and financial accounting within a manufacturing environment.

Required skills

• Zero‑based costing / budgeting.
• Proficiency in SAP.
• Experience with SYSPRO (advantageous).
• Advanced Excel skills.
