Cost Accountant (Zero-based experience)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established manufacturing organisation in Johannesburg East, is seeking an experienced Cost & Financial Accountant. The role sits at the intersection of operations and finance, providing cost insights that shape profitability and strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain product costing models to ensure accurate cost allocation.
• Perform detailed cost analysis, variance reporting and zero‑based budgeting across manufacturing operations.
• Analyse profitability trends, identify margin improvement opportunities and recommend cost‑optimisation actions.
• Prepare month‑end journals, reconciliations, supporting schedules and assist with year‑end close.
• Produce management accounts and financial reports for leadership review.
• Monitor inventory valuation, analyse production variances and partner with operations to improve cost efficiency.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cost accounting and financial reporting within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to investigate cost drivers and present actionable recommendations.
• Knowledge of zero‑based costing and budgeting methodologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with production and operations teams.
