Cook I – Food & Beverage

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Cook I to join our Food & Beverage team at a leading hotel in Umhlanga Ridge, Durban. The role involves preparing a variety of meals, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and presentation in a fast‑paced kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals and substitute items according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters and monitor food quality and quantity.
• Thaw frozen items, maintain food logs, and ensure proper portioning and garnish.
• Communicate with chefs and service staff about menu specials, out‑of‑stock items, and excess food for daily specials.
• Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating kitchen staff as needed.
• Follow all safety, security, and hygiene policies, reporting any incidents or maintenance needs.

Required profile

• Technical or vocational education related to culinary arts.
• At least 3 years of relevant kitchen experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 lb and work in a hot environment.
