Controller – Imports and Exports

About the role

The Controller – Imports and Exports will manage the end‑to‑end handling, monitoring and control of shipments, ensuring compliance with company policies and client requirements. You will act as a key liaison between clients, shipping lines and internal teams to guarantee smooth cargo movement.

Key responsibilities

• Open shipment files, allocate file numbers and establish landside, transport and third‑party rates.
• Verify that shipping line invoices match internal buying rates and ensure all documentation is complete and forwarded to the clearing department.
• Gather cargo and origination data, negotiate rates with clients and international offices, and arrange the appropriate shipping method.
• Monitor cargo arrivals against bookings, update event controls and capture data in Cargowise.
• Communicate shipment status to clients and provide assistance to fellow Controllers.
• Track shipments from indent to proof of delivery and invoice payment, supporting timely close‑out.
• Provide administrative backup to the Ocean Freight Import team and ensure compliance with company regulations.
• Resolve client queries and complaints promptly and satisfactorily.

Required profile

• Matric qualification; NCFF (NQF ¾) preferred; FIATA Diploma advantageous.
• Logistics or related degree/diploma is a plus.
• 3–4 years of experience in Import Freight Services.
• Comprehensive knowledge of forwarding, clearing, Incoterms and customs requirements.
• Eligibility to work in South Africa.
