About the role
We are seeking a qualified Compliance Officer / Senior Legal Counsel to lead legal and compliance activities for a major project in Conakry, Guinea. The role combines legal advisory, contract management, and compliance oversight across mining, labor, environmental and local content regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Track, interpret and ensure compliance with Guinean and West African laws, especially in mining, labor, environmental and local content areas.
- Design and maintain a project‑specific compliance management system covering personnel, operations and community relations.
- Draft, review and revise major contracts (EPC, procurement, logistics, service agreements) and mitigate legal risks.
- Support cross‑border disputes, participate in international arbitration and mediation.
- Conduct anti‑corruption, anti‑money‑laundering and export‑control reviews and implement an early‑warning risk mechanism.
- Maintain effective communication with Guinean authorities, local law firms and partners.
- Organise legal training for Chinese and expatriate teams and promote cross‑cultural integration.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in law from a recognised French or EU university.
- Admission to the French Bar or a common‑law bar (e.g., England & Wales, New York) preferred.
- Fluent in French and English; basic Chinese is a plus.
- Minimum 2 years experience at a reputable international law firm, preferably supporting large‑scale infrastructure or engineering projects.
- Familiarity with West African legal environments and strong knowledge of international commercial law, corporate governance, compliance investigations and cross‑border dispute resolution.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to overseas assignments and travel frequently.
