Director – Legal Counsel (SSA Logistics)

About the role

The Director – Legal Counsel will lead and integrate the legal function across DP World’s Sub‑Saharan Africa (SSA) logistics operations. Reporting to the Vice President Finance Logistics, this senior position ensures compliance, risk mitigation, and high‑performance legal services across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with diverse legal teams across several countries to align strategies and manage work streams.
• Design and implement governance, compliance models and risk‑management frameworks.
• Develop functional budgets and ensure strategic deliverables are adequately funded.
• Research and create legal frameworks, monitor local and international trends affecting the business.
• Establish and maintain sustainable stakeholder relationships, both local and cross‑border.
• Deliver integrated service‑delivery frameworks and exceptional stakeholder service.
• Facilitate legal training, develop contract templates, and manage high‑risk contract negotiations.
• Resolve contractual disputes and oversee quality control within the SSA legal department.
• Lead workforce planning, recruitment, learning & development, performance management and employee engagement for the legal team.

Required profile

• Proven senior legal leadership experience, preferably within logistics, transport or related sectors.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and develop high‑performing legal teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
