Compliance Officer – Regulatory Framework Lead

About the role

The Compliance Officer will support the Compliance Manager in establishing and maintaining a robust regulatory compliance framework for Sanlam Connect and BlueStar. This role focuses on identifying, managing, and monitoring compliance risks while ensuring adherence to legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and risk‑rate applicable laws and regulations, and develop compliance monitoring plans.
• Conduct compliance monitoring activities and compile internal and external compliance reports.
• Implement remedial actions, review regulatory training material, and deliver compliance training.
• Provide guidance on regulatory developments, group policies, and engage business areas on compliance feedback and corrective actions.
• Analyse and interpret legislation, advise on its impact, and interact with industry bodies.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of compliance experience, preferably within insurance or investment businesses.
• Working knowledge of FAIS, Long‑term Insurance Act, Conduct Standards, Policyholder Protection Rules, FICA and related financial services legislation.
• BCom/LLB or related qualification; applicable regulatory exams; CPrac designation advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute compliance risk management and monitoring plans.
• Behavioural competencies such as managing complexity, instilling trust, decision quality, and organisational savvy.
