Communications Internship – 12‑Month Graduate Programme

About the role

The Graduate Communications Internship at the Western Cape College of Nursing, Boland Overberg Campus in Worcester, offers a 12‑month contract for recent graduates. Interns will support the college’s communication activities, including public relations, recruitment events and content creation. This role provides practical experience in a health‑education environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist staff with general office duties and internal coordination, including document preparation and data entry.
• Communicate with external markets across the college’s catchment area through public‑relations functions such as press releases and media outreach.
• Participate in career exhibitions, school and campus visits to promote student recruitment and raise awareness of nursing programmes.
• Attend college events and draft articles with accompanying photographs for newsletters and online platforms.
• Support student recruitment drives by managing contact lists, responding to inquiries and preparing promotional materials.

Required profile

• Hold a degree or diploma (NQF Level 6 or higher) in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design or Public Relations.
• Be aged between 20 and 35 years at the time of application.
• Successfully pass the competency test and provide recent certified copies (not older than six months) of identity document, qualification and any other required paperwork.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word for document creation and editing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data handling and spreadsheet tasks.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing presentations.
• Ability to use email systems effectively for professional correspondence.
• Ability to browse, research and retrieve information using the internet.
