Commis II – Pastry

About the role

Beyond Grad is recruiting a Commis II Pastry for MSC Cruises / Shosholoza Ocean Academy. The role covers pastry preparation, baking and production, stock management, hygiene and safety, and quality control, working alongside the Executive Pastry Chef and senior pastry staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cakes, pastries, breads, desserts and bakery items according to recipes, including measuring, mixing, shaping and decorating
• Ensure ingredients and mise en place are ready before service
• Produce high-quality baked goods with consistent taste and appearance, operating baking and pastry equipment safely and following production schedules set by the Pastry Chef
• Monitor ingredient levels, rotate stock correctly, store items properly and minimise waste through accurate production planning
• Follow HACCP, food safety and sanitation procedures, keeping stations, equipment and storage areas clean
• Work with the Executive Pastry Chef and support the team during high-volume periods
• Check finished products visually before service and report equipment faults or quality issues

Required profile

• Valid South African passport or passport application receipt
• Police clearance certificate issued within three months
• BMI under 35 (as per position requirements)
• Clear drug screening from a registered medical provider
• Colour ID copy or passport photo
• Detailed CV aligned to the job criteria
• At least one year of professional experience in a similar role; work-integrated learning will be considered
