Commercial Attorney

About the role

Powerfleet is seeking an experienced Commercial Attorney to join its legal team in South Africa. The role will provide practical legal support across the business, focusing on commercial contracts, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer and vendor agreements, supplier contracts, NDAs, SLAs, licensing agreements and partnership/joint‑venture agreements.
• Oversee the full contract lifecycle – drafting, negotiation, execution, renewals, amendments and terminations.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks and standard legal documentation to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Provide business‑focused legal advice to cross‑functional teams such as Sales, Procurement, Finance, Product and Operations.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and commercial risks associated with contractual arrangements.
• Support business initiatives by embedding legal considerations into operational processes and strategic decisions.
• Liaise with external counsel when specialist advice is required.
• Advise on data privacy and protection matters, ensuring compliance with POPIA and GDPR.
• Review and draft data processing agreements, privacy policies and related documentation.
• Support broader regulatory compliance initiatives and help implement compliance frameworks.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments, flag emerging risks and recommend appropriate actions.

Required profile

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Proven experience in commercial and contract law.
• Demonstrated ability to advise business stakeholders on legal matters.
• Experience drafting, negotiating and managing commercial agreements.
• Familiarity with data privacy legislation, preferably POPIA and GDPR.
• Strong analytical and risk‑assessment skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
