Collections & Recoveries Manager – Micro‑Lending (Bluff, Durban)

About the role

Our micro‑lending client is seeking a Collections & Recoveries Manager to take full ownership of the arrears book, overseeing the recovery lifecycle from initial delinquency through to litigation. You will lead the collections department, driving aggressive yet compliant strategies to meet financial recovery targets.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end‑to‑end collection lifecycle from day‑one delinquency to formal litigation.
• Implement strategies to minimise Portfolio at Risk (PAR 30, 60, 90+ days).
• Manage Section 129 notices, coordinate with attorneys, and track summonses, judgments and emolument attachment orders.
• Lead, mentor and motivate internal collections agents to achieve daily and monthly targets.
• Ensure all activities comply with the National Credit Act, Debt Collectors Act, POPIA and FAIS guidelines.
• Analyse arrear trends, monitor recovery rates and provide detailed weekly and monthly reports to executive management.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 + years in a senior collections or recoveries role within micro‑lending, retail credit or unsecured lending.
• Practical understanding of South African legal recovery processes and credit legislation.
• Proven track record of meeting tight collection targets and reducing bad‑debt write‑offs.
• Qualifications in Finance, Law, Credit Management or Business Administration are highly advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced data analysis using MS Excel.
