Clinical Nurse – Theatre Neuro Scrub

About the role

The Clinical Nurse (R/N) – Theatre Neuro Scrub provides specialised nursing care within the neuro‑surgical theatre at Netcare Milpark Hospital. The role focuses on delivering holistic, patient‑centred care, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe, high‑quality outcomes for neurosurgical patients.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource, assisting staff with assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing care.
• Maintain clear communication with families, health professionals and nursing management to advocate for optimal patient care.
• Provide advanced nursing care in the neuro‑theatre, following standard operating procedures and medical direction.
• Initiate and direct emergency treatment (RESUS) across the hospital as required.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds, develop and review individualised nursing care plans.
• Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing ratios and identified problems.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive understanding of modern nursing care principles and practices.

Required skills

• Neuro scrub nursing within a surgical theatre environment.
• Resuscitation (RESUS) and emergency response capabilities.
• Proficiency with electronic patient records, e‑scripts and clinical order systems.
