Clinical Nurse (R/N) – PB Qualified – 12‑Month CSSD Supervisor

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Clinical Nurse (R/N) with post‑basic training to lead the CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) at Netcare Akasia Hospital for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role combines direct patient care, emergency response and supervision of sterile processing activities within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care, assess, plan, implement and document patient care in the unit.
• Act as a clinical resource and advocate, ensuring communication between patients, families and health professionals.
• Initiate and lead emergency treatment (RESUS) across all wards as required.
• Coordinate with physicians during rounds, develop nursing care plans and monitor patient progress.
• Supervise CSSD operations, ensure safe, clean and secure environment, and manage supplies and equipment.
• Participate in staff education, mentoring, in‑service training and orientation of new team members.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Post‑basic qualification and extensive knowledge of specialised nursing theory and intensive care practice.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and lead clinical staff.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to Netcare policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic patient records and e‑scripts.
• Experience using clinical order entry systems.
• Competence in resuscitation (RESUS) and emergency response procedures.
