Clinical Nurse (RN) – Medical ICU

About the role

The Clinical Nurse (RN) in the Medical ICU provides holistic, person‑centred nursing care to critically ill patients, their families and the wider community. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the nurse coordinates care, advocates for patients and ensures safe, high‑quality treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource, assisting staff with assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing care.
• Coordinate communication between families, health professionals and nursing management to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Initiate and direct emergency treatment (RESUS) across the hospital as required.
• Interview patients and families, develop individualized care plans and participate in multidisciplinary rounds with physicians.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development, quality and risk management, and effective resource allocation.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialized nursing theory and practice.
• Ability to assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in a critical‑care environment.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to Netcare values.
