Clinical Nurse (R/N) – Experienced – ICU

About the role

The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of individualized, holistic and person‑centered nursing care for patients, families or the community. The role coordinates patient care within a multidisciplinary health team and applies nursing theories and processes.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource, assisting staff to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care in the ICU.
• Ensure effective communication with families, health professionals and nursing management to resolve patient‑care issues.
• Initiate and direct emergency treatment (RESUS) across any ward or department as needed.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, develop and review patient care plans, and conduct physician rounds.
• Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing ratios and identified problems.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development, quality and risk management, and safe utilisation of supplies and equipment.

Required profile

• Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
