Clinical Nurse – PICU (Registered Nurse)

About the role

The Clinical Nurse will work in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Netcare Unitas Hospital, delivering holistic, person‑centred nursing care to critically ill children and their families. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with multidisciplinary teams and acting as an advocate for safe, high‑quality treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care in accordance with SOPs and nursing theory.
• Provide emergency treatment (RESUS) and manage urgent situations across the hospital.
• Collaborate with physicians during rounds, develop care plans and document patient status for each shift.
• Facilitate communication between families, nursing staff and other health professionals.
• Contribute to policy development, quality and risk management, and resource allocation within the unit.
• Participate in education, mentorship and in‑service training for nursing staff and students.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Comprehensive knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to Netcare values.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic patient records, e‑scripts and clinical order systems.
• Competence in performing RESUS (emergency) procedures.
