Clinical Nurse – ICU (3 positions)

About the role

The Clinical Nurse will deliver holistic, person‑centred care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Netcare Greenacres Hospital. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the nurse will act as a clinical resource, advocate for patients and families, and support the delivery of safe, high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, implementation and documentation for ICU patients.
• Serve as a clinical resource, assisting staff with patient care decisions and ensuring consistent communication with families and health professionals.
• Initiate and lead emergency treatment (RESUS) across the hospital when required.
• Conduct patient and family interviews, develop individualized care plans, and participate in physician rounds.
• Prepare accurate shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing ratios and any issues.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development, quality and risk management initiatives.
• Participate in education, training and mentorship of nursing staff and students.
• Allocate and adjust staff levels to meet patient acuity and specialised skill needs.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Experience delivering advanced nursing care in an intensive care setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and act as a patient advocate.
