Clinical Nurse – Experienced Theatre Scrub

About the role

The Clinical Nurse (R/N) will work in the theatre scrub environment at Netcare Cuyler Hospital, providing safe and person‑centred care to surgical patients. The role requires an experienced registered nurse who can coordinate care within a multidisciplinary team and act as a patient advocate.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and document advanced nursing care for patients in the operating theatre, following hospital SOPs and nursing theory.
• Serve as a clinical resource, supporting staff in patient assessment, care planning and emergency treatment (RESUS) across the unit.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, develop individualised nursing care plans and ensure clear communication with physicians, families and other health professionals.
• Maintain accurate shift documentation, monitor patient status and report any care issues to nursing management.
• Contribute to policy development, quality and risk management, and ensure a safe, clean environment for patients, staff and visitors.
• Facilitate education and training for nursing staff and students, including emergency procedures and the adoption of electronic patient records.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory, modern nursing care principles and practices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic patient record systems.
• Experience using e‑scripts and clinical order platforms.
