Civil Engineer – Municipal Water & Wastewater Projects

About the role

The municipality is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide technical support for water conveyance, wastewater reticulation, and related infrastructure projects. The role involves ensuring designs are technically sound, economically viable, and compliant with prevailing standards and policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the Area/Work Project Engineer, ensuring services are correct, cost‑effective and meet standards.
• Analyse water conveyance, storage, wastewater reticulation, pump stations, treatment works and related structures.
• Research and apply design philosophies to size and locate project elements.
• Coordinate with other organisations and affected parties to protect municipal interests.
• Supervise contracts to ensure value for money, contractual compliance and safe working procedures.
• Prepare draft routing reports, correspondence and estimates for the Area Engineer.
• Review developer submissions for compliance with departmental design criteria and specifications for major sewer and water developments.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 8) in Civil Engineering.
• Registration as a Candidate Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) within three months of appointment.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• Minimum two years of relevant post‑qualification experience.
• Computer literacy.
