Civil Earthworks Supervisor – Mining Project

About the role

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is developing a world‑class palladium‑rhodium‑nickel‑copper‑gold project near Mokopane, Limpopo. The project will use large‑scale mechanised underground mining methods to create a “mine of the future”. The company is seeking an experienced Civil Earthworks Supervisor to lead civil and earthworks activities for the development phase.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all civil and earthworks works including excavation, back‑filling, grading, drainage installation and foundation preparation, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Verify compaction levels, material suitability and layer thickness, monitor tolerances, levels and alignments, and implement corrective actions for any technical deviations.
• Provide direct supervision and hands‑on guidance to local contractors, assist them in interpreting drawings and specifications, and develop their technical capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with the QA/QC Supervisor to ensure required testing (e.g., compaction tests) is completed and meets quality standards.
• Coordinate civil works with building, electrical and other construction activities to keep the overall project schedule on track.

Required profile

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 8‑10 years of experience in civil or earthworks construction within mining, infrastructure or industrial environments.
• Strong background in bulk earthworks, compaction and drainage systems.
• Proven experience supervising contractors on site, preferably in multi‑contractor environments.
• South African citizenship; preference given to historically disadvantaged South Africans and women.
