Chief Operating Officer (Vegetable Production)

About the role

A leading fresh‑produce company in South Africa is looking for a Chief Operating Officer to join its executive team near Kimberley. The role oversees vegetable production across large‑scale farms and modern packhouses, driving performance, growth and innovation in a high‑impact environment.

Key responsibilities

• Executive Leadership – lead and inspire a senior management team, set operational strategies and ensure business objectives are met.
• Operational Excellence – oversee daily farm and warehouse operations, maintain strict food‑safety and quality compliance, and drive proactive problem‑solving.
• People Management – develop staff, manage performance targets and foster a culture of accountability and collaboration.
• Logistics & Supply Chain – optimise transport, storage and distribution to maximise efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.
• Engineering & Technical Collaboration – work closely with engineering teams to improve processes and equipment performance.
• Financial & Strategic Oversight – monitor performance metrics, control costs and contribute to strategic planning, expansion and investment initiatives.
• Stakeholder Management – build and maintain strong relationships with partners, suppliers and other key stakeholders.

Required profile

• At least 15 years of senior management experience, preferably in agriculture, food production or large‑scale industrial operations.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, financial management and risk oversight.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Strong technical aptitude and a genuine passion for agriculture.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation, negotiation and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to prioritize under pressure, meet deadlines and consistently uphold high standards.
