Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – 5‑Year Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

The Water Research Commission (WRC) seeks a senior finance leader to drive its financial strategy and governance on a five‑year fixed‑term basis. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will ensure robust financial management, compliance and resource optimisation to support WRC’s mission of water and sanitation innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the organisation’s finance strategy.
• Oversee internal and external audit processes and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• Provide strategic financial advice to the Board and Executive Committee.
• Lead the Finance Branch, ensuring efficient operations and performance excellence.
• Manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation.

Required profile

• Honours degree or postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in Accounting or Finance.
• Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
• MBA, MBL, MCom or other internationally recognised finance qualification (NQF level 9) is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years of financial management experience, with at least 5 years at senior management level.
• Public‑sector experience is desirable.
