Chief Electrical Draughtsperson (2 positions)

About the role

A leading consulting organisation is looking for two experienced Chief Electrical Draughtspersons to join its Johannesburg team. The role combines senior technical drafting expertise with leadership of the drawing office to deliver high‑quality electrical engineering drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage day‑to‑day operations of the drawing office.
• Lead, mentor and coordinate draughting personnel to ensure efficient workflow.
• Plan, schedule and allocate drawing office resources.
• Develop, implement and maintain drafting standards and procedures.
• Produce and oversee high‑quality electrical engineering drawings.
• Review, check, correct and approve drawings before issue.
• Monitor production schedules and provide accurate time estimates.
• Ensure effective drawing layout, presentation and legibility.
• Coordinate with engineers and project teams to meet design requirements.
• Maintain document control and drawing revision processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the drawing office.

Required profile

• National Diploma or N Diploma in Engineering/Draughting (NQF Level 6 – 240 Credits).
• Minimum 8 years of electrical draughting experience.
• Proven experience supervising a drawing office or draughting team.
• Experience in work planning, scheduling and resource management.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and quality assurance.
• Ability to work under demanding project schedules while maintaining high‑quality deliverables.

Required skills

• Bentley MicroStation V8i (essential).
• 3D modelling experience (advantageous).
