Chief Director – Library and Information Service

About the role

The University seeks a visionary Chief Director to lead its Library and Information Service (LIS). This senior executive will shape the library’s strategic direction, ensuring it acts as a catalyst for teaching, learning, research and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the LIS portfolio, aligning it with institutional priorities and global trends.
• Develop and implement a forward‑looking LIS strategy that supports digital scholarship, open science and research support.
• Lead digital transformation initiatives, integrating emerging technologies, data analytics and innovative service models.
• Promote scholarly communication, open access and collaborative knowledge creation across disciplines.
• Oversee policy development, governance, quality assurance and compliance for all LIS operations.
• Manage human resources, talent development, succession planning and foster an inclusive, high‑performance culture.
• Direct operational and financial management, including budgeting, infrastructure, technology and facilities.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including academic departments, alumni, consortia and professional networks.

Required profile

• Master’s or doctoral degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
• At least eight (8) years of senior management experience in academic or research libraries or comparable information‑science entities.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, institutional leadership, budgeting and people management.
• Demonstrated experience leading digital transformation and innovation in complex organisations.
• Strong understanding of scholarly communication, library technologies, open science and higher‑education trends.
