Category Manager – Solar

About the role

The successful candidate is responsible for maintaining an array of customer accounts and achieving high sales targets. They will build strong, sustainable relationships with both existing and new clients while providing technical support and advice on RSA standards and specifying products for industrial applications.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the marketplace and design a market strategy, reporting monthly to the divisional manager.
• Identify and capitalise on new product opportunities, positioning the product range in client stores.
• Develop product launch programmes and organise customer days or awareness campaigns within a month of product receipt.
• Respond to client emails and calls within 48 hours, preparing enquiries and quotes weekly to meet sales targets.
• Generate new leads, follow up within 48 hours and execute sales strategies, using sample stock, demo suitcases and catalogues during visits.

Required profile

• Minimum Matric qualification.
• Electrical qualifications (B.Tech or B.Sc).
• At least 5 years of sales experience in a solar environment, including external sales.
• Strong negotiation skills and a positive, go‑getter attitude.
• Valid driver’s licence, own reliable car and ability to travel as required.
• Fluency in English and Afrikaans.

Required skills

• Electrical engineering knowledge (B.Tech/B.Sc) applicable to solar products.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (RSA) and Atex compliance.
• Technical support and advisory experience for RSA standards in industrial applications.
• Proven expertise in solar industry sales and product specification.
