Casual Cashier – Kempton Park (Talent Pool)

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is building a talent pool of pre-screened casual cashiers for its Kempton Park stores. The purpose is to have a ready group of people with the right skills and qualifications who can be considered for future positions. Not everyone in the talent pool will be hired, but it improves the chance of being considered when a vacancy arises.

Key responsibilities

• Support customer service at the point of sale and record transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policy and standard operating procedures.
• Follow customer service policies, report complaints and compliments to the frontline supervisor or store management, and adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate.
• Manage cash flow, keep the till secure, place cash in the drop safe per SOPs, and handle daily takings confidentially.
• Process all payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons) and handle loyalty cards of partner schemes.
• Approve and sign off line voids and price changes, exchange merchandise and accept returns where authorised.
• Scan and pay for outgoing stock, follow security policies, and report suspicious behaviour to management.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience.
• Willing and able to work retail hours, with reliable transport or living close to the store.
• South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.

Required skills

• Computer literacy (MS Office).
• Sound numerical skills and strong command of English.
• In-depth knowledge of cash registers and cash drawers, and of processing sales, refunds and payments.
