Business Improvement Engineer Intern

About the role

Mediclinic Southern Africa is offering a 12-month internship for Industrial Engineering graduates, based at its Stellenbosch corporate office. The programme combines hands-on project experience, professional development and a study component, giving graduates practical experience in continuous improvement, process optimisation and operational excellence within a healthcare setting. Interns work alongside experienced Business Improvement Engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Under the guidance of an assigned Business Improvement Engineer, map, document and analyse business processes to find inefficiencies and improvement opportunities, and help design and evaluate improved processes.
• Gather, validate and analyse operational data, and help build performance measures, dashboards and reports.
• Support the planning, coordination and monitoring of improvement projects, applying Lean and other continuous improvement methods.
• Collaborate with teams across hospital operations and corporate functions, and present process analyses and recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering (BEng or BSc Eng).
• No previous work experience required.
• Preference given according to the Employment Equity Plan, as well as to internal applicants who meet the minimum requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
• Lean / Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodology
• Project planning and coordination
• Strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills in English
