Business Development Specialist

About the role

The Business Development Specialist will drive growth by identifying, generating and nurturing new business opportunities within the short‑term insurance sector. This role combines strategic lead generation, networking and market research to expand the client base and strengthen market presence.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, generate and nurture new business opportunities through strategic lead generation and professional networking.
• Develop and execute lead qualification strategies using outbound calls, emails and LinkedIn outreach.
• Utilise the company’s Leads Management Portals, CRM platforms and telephony system to track leads through the sales pipeline.
• Attend industry events, conferences and business chambers to build relationships with referral partners and potential clients.
• Conduct market research to identify trends, segment prospects and provide feedback to product and service teams.
• Maintain accurate records and deliver regular reports on lead generation performance and ROI.

Required profile

• Matric or relevant diploma/degree in Marketing, Sales, Business Management or Insurance.
• FAIS compliance / RE5 certification is advantageous.
• 3–5 years of experience in sales, business development or lead generation, preferably in the short‑term insurance sector.
• Proven track record of generating and qualifying leads and working in networking or referral‑based sales environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CRM platforms.
• Experience using Leads Management Portals.
• Familiarity with telephony systems for outbound prospecting.
• Ability to conduct digital lead generation via social media, email campaigns and events.
