Business Data Analyst

About the role

The Business Data Analyst will enable a data‑driven fintech organisation by turning complex operational and financial data into trusted insight, decision‑ready reporting and commercial opportunities. This hands‑on individual contributor role blends data analysis, business analysis and BI development within a regulated financial services environment.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders across finance, operations, sales, credit/risk and procurement to understand processes, pain points and reporting needs.
• Ask structured, clarifying questions to uncover the true business problem behind data requests.
• Map business processes and identify opportunities for improved data, reporting or automation.
• Define meaningful metrics, KPIs, standard terms and data definitions to reduce ambiguity.
• Act as a bridge between business and technical teams, translating requirements into data solutions.
• Build reusable data assets and decision‑support tools for leadership and operational teams.
• Produce trusted insight and decision‑ready reporting from operational, financial, client, supplier and deal data.
• Contribute to data that informs lending decisions, pricing approaches and portfolio performance.

Required profile

• Mid‑to‑senior professional comfortable with imperfect datasets and ambiguous business questions.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations.
• Experience working in a regulated financial services or fintech environment.
• Ability to collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Understanding of data privacy, security and auditability requirements (e.g., POPIA).
